Bessie Alene (Workman) Umsted, age 83, a lifelong Caney, OK resident, was born on Wednesday, September 5, 1934, to A.L. Workman and Dessie (Lackey) Workman, at Voca, OK.
Bessie passed away on Monday, August 13, 2018 at Durant, OK. She graduated from Caney High School. Bessie worked for the tax assessor for 20 years and was a paraprofessional for Caney Public Schools. She married Robert Earl Umsted on Sunday, April 12th, 1953 at Durant, OK. Bessie was a member of Caney Freewill Baptist Church. Her clothing store, "Bessie's Classy Creations" in Caney, was her hobby.
Bessie is survived by her children, Rickey Earl Umsted of Caney, OK, Vicki Kirkpatrick and husband Joe of Durant, OK, Mickey Lee Umsted and wife Lesley of Coweta, OK; granddaughters, Leslie Marie Graham of Caney, OK, Lisa Diane Taylor of Caney, OK, Jonna McDaniel of Durant, OK,  Lori Ford of Durant, OK, Kindra Richeson and husband Ty of Milburn, OK; grandson, Dakota Mick Umsted of Murfreesboro, TN; 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Glenda McBride of Caney, OK, Lenis Boehme of Caney, OK; brother, Don Workman and wife Brenda of Tushka, OK; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many lifelong friends.
Bessie is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Earl Umsted; parents, A.L. and Dessie Workman; brothers,  Clifford Workman, Gene Workman; sister, Carolyn Yoder .
