Betty Lou Southerland, age 80, a longtime Atoka, OK resident, was born on Sunday, December 8, 1940, to James and Jimmie (Barlow) Jones, at Lonoke, AR. Betty passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Durant, OK. She graduated from North Little Rock High School in North Little Rock, AR. Betty was a teller for Ameristate Bank for 20 years. She married Victor Southerland on Saturday, March 9th, 1968 at Albuquerque, NM. They celebrated 42 years of marriage before his passing on March 5, 2010. Betty was a member of Victory Life Church. She enjoyed working on puzzles, getting her hair done at Gina's at 1pm on Fridays, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.
Betty is survived by her son, Keith Southerland and wife Kristy of Atoka, OK; daughter, Vicki Simpson and husband Scott of Pinehurst, NC; grandchildren, Zak Southerland of Atoka, OK, Jake Southerland of Atoka, OK, Kelsey Mobbs of Atoka, OK, Paige Thompson and husband David of Greenville, SC, Skylar Pasquali of Oklahoma City, OK, Whitni Simpson of Greenville, SC; great grandchild, Rhyder Belle Cole of Atoka, OK; sister, Sylvia Dean Elliott of Jacksonville, AR; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, James and Jimmie Jones; husband, Victor Southerland; son, Mark Victor Southerland; numerous brothers and sisters.
