Billy Joe Dashner, age 85, a Las Vegas resident for the past 20 years, formerly of Atoka, OK, was born on Monday, February 26, 1934, to Forrest and Ethel (Gilbreath) Dashner, in Atoka County, OK. Billy passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at Las Vegas, NV. Dashner attended Mamie Johnson Elementary and graduated in 1953 from Atoka High School where he was a three year letterman on the Wampus Cat baseball, basketball, and football teams. Billy Joe earned three university degrees: a BA from SOSU, a MA and a Professional Degree from the University of Tulsa. He played professional baseball with various organizations for nine years. After his baseball career, he became a teacher and coached baseball and basketball for several years. Dashner left teaching and embarked on a career in City Management, serving 24 years as City Manager at various cities in Oklahoma and Texas. He served as a member of the Army's 45th Infantry Division. Billy Joe was saved and baptized in 1948 at First Baptist Church in Atoka. He retired in 1994 and moved to Las Vegas, NV, where he served as a lay minister to the homeless.
Billy is survived by his long time friends, Don and Vonda Hale, Tulsa, OK; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
Billy is preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Ethel (Gilbreath) Dashner; sister and brother in law, June and Raymond Joe Griffin; brother and sister in law, Paul and Maudalee Dashner; brother, Brick Dashner.
