Billy Eugene Simmons, age 87, a longtime Atoka, OK resident. He was born on Wednesday, August 18, 1937, to Francis Lee and Edith Marie (Williams) Simmons, at Childress, TX. Billy passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025 at Denison, TX. He graduated from Carey High School with the Class of 55' and was nominated as Class Favorite. Billy was a janitor in Atoka working at many different places and was also an ordained Jehovah Witness Minister. He married Gracie Esther (Ingram) on Saturday, March 26th, 1960 at Altus, OK. They were happily married for almost 65 years. Billy was a faithful member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Atoka. His favorite memories growing up were working with his grandfather on his dairy. He loved being outside working in the garden, fishing, classic cars, watching western movies, basketball, football (especially Dallas Cowboys), would never turn down a good biscuit or a cookie, and was known among family and friends for his skills barbecuing and grilling. Nieces and nephews say you could count on Uncle Bill to sneak you a wing or a hotlink. In his years cleaning floors and working all over Atoka and Coalgate, he picked up every lost screw or piece of scrap he came across and usually had it in his pocket when someone needed it. Billy was always available to help people, and he could be counted on with his calm and steady nature. He had a great sense of humor and loved working his crosswords over coffee every morning with Gracie. What was foremost in his life was his faith, reading his Bible daily, and his hope for the future. He devoted every morning to reading and studying his Bible, and spent many hours in the ministry. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family and countless friends.
Billy is survived by his wife, Gracie Esther Simmons of the home in Atoka, OK; children, Melodie Deal of Sherman, TX, Derek Simmons and wife Amy of Trenton, TX, Shawna Simmons of Atoka, OK; grandchildren, Samantha Deal of Bonham, TX, Jaxson Simmons of Trenton, TX, Olivia Simmons of Trenton, TX, Nolan Simmons of Trenton, TX, Bellarayn Simmons of Trenton, TX; siblings, Shirley Mills of Lubbock, TX, Gayle Canon of Witchita Falls, TX, Harold Simmons and wife Donna of Dumas, TX, Sharon Wadley of Childress, TX, Toni Schubarth of Red Oak, TX; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Lee and Edith Marie (Williams) Simmons; brother, John Simmons.
