Bobby “Bob” Charles Breeden, 91, of Atoka, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his home on August 24, 2026. He was born on January 22, 1935, in Elk City, Oklahoma, to Bruce Breeden and Rachael Irene Milam.
Bob graduated from Atoka High School in 1952. On February 15, 1954, Bob married the love of his life, Ima Jean Wilson, in a double wedding ceremony shared with Ima’s twin sister Jo Dean and close friend, Eddie. What began that day became a marriage spanning more than 72 years of building a home, raising a family, and walking through all of life’s seasons side by side. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1957 to 1963.
For many years, Bob owned and operated a Texaco service station in Atoka, where he worked as a mechanic and became a familiar and loved face in the community. To many of his customers, Bob was more than just a mechanic. He was a listening ear and a trusted friend, especially to the many truckers who came through town and found a familiar face and good conversation waiting for them at his station. He retired in 1997, but retirement didn’t keep him away from work for long. He later went to work for Atoka Public Schools, where he drove and worked on school buses until 2011.
Bob was also a dedicated member of Southside Baptist Church where he regularly participated in the “Old Men’s Bible Study Group”. His faith and service were constant throughout his life.
Bob was a hardworking man who spent his life serving others and setting an example for the generations that followed him. A gifted mechanic, there wasn’t much he couldn’t fix, and he had a lifelong love of classic cars and trucks, especially when he had the chance to drive them a little faster than he probably should have. He believed in working hard, helping others, and taking care of the people around him, values he passed down to his children and grandchildren.
When he wasn’t working, Bob could often be found outside mowing, a job he genuinely enjoyed, as long as the pinecones weren’t getting in his way. He loved his chickens, working jig-saw puzzles, crosswords and sitting down for card games or Moon with family and friends. These simple things brought him great joy and became part of the memories his family will carry with them.
He is survived by his wife, Ima Jean Breeden of Atoka, OK; his daughter, Bobbie Ricker and her husband, Frank Landin of Denison, TX; and his son, Kenneth “PeeWee” Breeden and his wife, Rebecca of Atoka, OK.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, John Ricker and his wife, Rebecca of Bastrop, TX; Rachael Weger and her husband, Ryan of Bells, TX; Cody Breeden and his wife, Trista of Farris, OK; Bailey Callicoat and her husband, Jacob of Harmony, OK; Kelsey Landin of Denison, TX; and Meagan Landin of Denison, TX.
Bob’s legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Emma, Charlee, Sadie, Ellie, Ava, Emery, Evan, John Reed, Annie, Jack, Jaxson, Esra, Jude and one more great-grandchildren on the way.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Jo Dean Cooke, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce Breeden and Rachael Irene Milam; his son, Gary Michael Breeden; his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and J.R. Carlisle; his brother and sister-in-law, Don and Louise Milam; his sister, Pat Breeden; and brother-in-law, Eddie Cooke.
Bob leaves behind more than a lifetime of memories. He leaves an example of what it means to work hard, serve others, love your family, and live your faith. The lessons he taught, often more by the way he lived than by the words he spoke, will continue through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and all those whose lives were made better by knowing him.
