Obituary

Bobby Leon Johnson Jr. (Lil Bobby) entered this world on September 26, 1958 in Atoka, OK at the home of Henry and Nancy Pierce, his maternal grandparents. He was the firstborn child of Bobby and Bettye Johnson. Bobby was a very active young man and even from an early age was known for batting his long eyelashes and charming those around him. He began his academic career at Dunbar Schools where he attended until the Atoka Public Schools officially and fully integrated. Bobby was a bright young man and excelled in classes when he put his mind to it. Bobby loved to compete; he was a competitor through and through. During his school years Bobby enjoyed playing sports. He was a very good athlete and throughout his youth he played baseball, basketball, ran track and loved to bowl. Bobby truly enjoyed playing basketball and put his heart and soul into it. He had a smooth jump shot and had mad skills as a point guard. Spring and summer meant baseball to Bobby. During the summers, Bobby played baseball on a team coached by his father; Bobby Johnson Sr. The baseball team, which consisted of most of the young men in the neighborhood, won their league several years running. Bobby played short stop and pitched. The one sport in high school that Bobby chose not to compete in was football. As an alternative he was happy being an active member of the Pride of Atoka Marching Band in which he played the clarinet. In addition to his other sports, Bobby also participated in a fledgling AHS boxing league and boxed in several matches. After graduating in 1976, Bobby attended Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton, OK. His life journey took him to California where he resided for a number of years until his return in 2008. Although he was unable to return to Oklahoma often, he stayed in close contact with his mother. During his lifetime he worked in construction enjoying masonry and carpentry. After many years of being away Bobby was able to return to live in Oklahoma. Upon his return to Oklahoma, he worked at renewing relationships and reconnecting with family. His path in life was sometimes rocky, but he always fought on. Bobby was a survivor especially when the chips were down. Bobby was baptized as a teen and was added to the Church of Christ. He participated in Mrs. Lula Mae's Sunday school class and often took part in services of the church. Bobby loved family, loved life and loved to dress and look sharp. Even from an early age he was interested in dressing to the nines. Back in the day Bobby (along with many of his friends) did more than his part to keep Flagg Bros in business. During his high school years in the mid to late 70's he usually could be seen sporting his platform shoes and signature fro, often topped with the latest style in hats. Bobby had a way with the ladies and some would even say he was quite the charmer. He never met a stranger and his gift of gab often had him engaging in conversations with people wherever he went. He loved to debate and meddle with people displaying his sense of humor and sharp wit. Bobby's sense of humor and ability to make others smile will truly be missed. Those who cherish memories in his passing are his mother Bettye Johnson (Atoka), sisters Alesha (Willie) Lilly, Oklahoma City, Marcedes Johnson (Atoka), brothers Montana, BJ, & Tyreke Johnson (Atoka), his children Kindra Harrison (Ada); Jerry (Tara) (Joplin, MO); Carlas Brown, (Texas); LaTasha Johnson (Sacramento, CA); Charda Johnson (Hayward, CA); grandchildren DeShon, Deiontay, Teondre, Shavon; Shaylynn, Justice, Kobe, Ashton, Elijah; Alaysia, Joseph; Dania; and great grandchildren Diamond and Marquise, a host of relatives and friends. Bobby is preceded in death by: his father Bobby Johnson Sr., an infant sister Brenda J; maternal grandparents, Henry and Nancy Pierce and paternal grandparents, Spencer and Gloria Johnson and Cassie Fisher.
