Charlene (Sykes) Steer, age 85, lived in Tahlequah for many years and a Bromide, OK resident for the last 24 years, was born on Thursday, August 8, 1935, to Jess and Rissie (Johnson) Sykes, at Hominy, OK. Charlene passed away on Monday, July 5, 2021 at Ada, OK. She attended High School. Charlene was a housewife and homemaker, worked in a restaurant in Sand Springs, OK for 30 cents a day, and later worked on a dairy farm. She married Ova Steer Sr., he preceded her in death. Charlene grew up as a baptist, later attended Wapanucka United Pentecostal Church. She loved to sew, make quilts, taking care of grandchildren, gardening and growing flowers, fishing and visiting.
Charlene is survived by her children, Buck Sykes and wife Jill of Bromide, OK, Frankie Jackson of Norman, OK, David Steer of Tishomingo, OK, OV Steer of Tulsa, OK, Jane Duncan and husband Randy of Mannford, OK, Bessie Dennis and husband Audie of Sand Springs, OK, Lucille Davis of Mannford, OK; 13 grandchildren; numerous great and great great grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Rissie Sykes; husband, OVA Steer Sr.; grandchildren, Timothy Sykes, Chasity Miller; brothers, Ruben Sykes, Kenneth Sykes, Osca Sykes; sisters, Rosie Mannor, Theta Baker, Lucille Hull.
