Obituary

Charles "Punk" Alton Thompson, age 91, a Clarita resident.  He was born on September 17, 1929, to Robert Preston Thompson & Mettie V. (Rainbolt), at Johnston County, OK. Punk passed away on November 27, 2020 at Clarita, OK.

He graduated from Tishomingo High School.  In 1948, the University of Oklahoma coaching legend Bud Wilkinson personally made a trip to Tishomingo to recruit Punk to play football for OU. Punk attended spring practice at OU in 1949, but decided to sign a letter of intent with Oklahoma A & M, which is now Oklahoma State University.

An injury to his knee during his senior year in high school would require surgery before he could play and Punk chose not to have the surgery and decided go to work as a pipeliner. He never regretted his decision not to play. In 1994, Punk was inducted into the Tishomingo High School Hall of Fame for football and track. He was All District Football 1946, 1947, 1948 and All Conference Football 1947 & 1948.

Punk was a Pipeliner for over 45 years. & Rancher. He married the love of his life Earldene "Jerri" Woods she preceded him in death on June 30, 2016. Punk was a member of the Church of Christ, a member of Wapanucka Masonic Lodge. Punk loved sports. He was an avid OU fan and he and his daughter enjoyed watching OKC Thunder games together on TV. He loved listening to real country music. He picked out many, many pounds of pecans and loved every minute of it. Cutting fire wood was something he always liked to do. He hauled shale for the public and fixed his own truck flats until he was around 90. He wasn't one to sit still and wanted to stay busy.

He was proud of his son and daughter. His grandkids and their spouses were very special to him. Proud of his "favorite granddaughter" Micah. Proud of his grandson Tanner and his ranching abilities. Proud of his grandson, Zane, and enjoyed buying knives from his knife shop and giving them away. Proud of his grandson, Greg, and thoroughly enjoyed listening to him play music and loved the personal concerts. He was blessed to get to spend time with his great grandson, Creed Wilson.
