August 4, 1936 – March 5, 2024
Charles Richard Bond, 87, born August 4, 1936, son to Jesse L. and H. Viola (Johnson) Bond and grandson of Richard T. and Margaret Harbaugh Bond all of Atoka, OK and Charles Daniel and Hilda Maria (Olsen) Johnson. Richard attended Atoka Schools all twelve years. He was an avid baseball player, graduating in 1954. Involved in the Drama Club, National Honors Society. Attended Boy's State in 1953-1961 he served in the 45th Division as Military Police. In 1961, Richard worked in the Lamount School of Music, as Assistant Purser. Richard joined Central City Opera Festival, where he sang over 200 performances of 12 operas and 13 productions. Followed by 19 seasons with the Fort Worth Opera; 8 seasons with Dallas Opera; 2 seasons with Tulsa Opera; 4 seasons as assistant artistic consultant and assistant manager for Opera Northwest in Brementon, Washington. Mr. Bond has sung over 600 performances in 110 productions. After retiring from singing, Richard has been active with the Atoka County Election Board for many years. A member of the Atoka County Veterans Council. Participating as Honor Guard in 40 flag folding funerals. Mr. Bond has chosen cremation, and there will be no formal service. Burial will be at Green Meadows Cemetery in Atoka, OK. Honorable mentions; Professor Lorna M. Haywood and family, Professor Margueritt Gignac, Maestro John P.
