May 12, 1934 – September 20, 2019
Charles William Callicoat, age 85, a longtime Atoka, OK resident who lived a few years in California before moving back to Atoka in 1968 was born on Saturday, May 12, 1934, to Carl Charles and Katie Becky (Maynard) Callicoat, at Bentley, OK. Charles passed away on Friday, September 20, 2019 at Tulsa, OK.
Charles attended East Allison and Atoka High Schools. He earned an Associates Degree in California and then a Bachelor of Business Management degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
Charles was a farmer and a rancher. He was the manager of several Western Auto Stores when he lived in California. After returning to Atoka, he worked for the Atoka County Times and then for the Department of Corrections as a Business Manager at Mack Alford where he retired after twenty years of service. Charles proudly served his country in the United States Army including service during the Korean Conflict. He married Virginia Ruth (Kemp) on Friday, January 26th, 1954 at Reno, NV.
Charles was a member of Bentley Baptist Church. He loved riding his mule, working clearing land, and his dogs. He thoroughly enjoyed relaxing at home with his wife Virginia.
Charles is survived by his wife, Virginia Ruth Callicoat of the home; children, Alan Callicoat and wife Michelle of Coalfield, TN, Donna Ledford and husband Shawn of Chickasha, OK, Ellis Callicoat and wife Deanna of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Dustin Callicoat and wife Sara of McAlester, OK, Amanda Johnson and husband Jeremy of North Manchester, IN, Amy Johnson and husband Gary of North Manchester, IN, Gus Callicoat of Coalfield, TN, Bryce Tucker and wife Amber of Fort Wainwright, AK, Kara Taylor and husband Will of Moore, OK, Michael Young and wife Cassandra of Wylie, TX, Brittany Barcheers and husband Billy of Josephine, TX; 20 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sister, Louise Daffin of Sallisaw, OK; along with numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Charles and Katie Becky (Maynard) Callicoat; son, Terry Lee Callicoat; grandson, T.J. Callicoat; infant sister.
