Charlie "Vern"Cathey, age 78, an Ada, OK resident, was born on Friday, November 23, 1934, to Charlie and Minnie Iva (Evans) Cathey, at Boggy Depot, OK. Vern passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2013 at Ada, OK. He graduated Tushka High School. Most of his life he worked as a long haul truck driver. He was a very talented man who was a jack of all trades, he could fix just about anything. He hauled hay in his early years along with owning a gas station, recreation center with a grill, sold oil products, sold and installed satellite systems and had an auto repair shop, owned two tires shop, worked as a cowboy and was foreman of a farm/ranch, he also was a moonshiner for a short time, many, many years ago. In 1958 Vern received Jesus into his life and was baptized in a stock pond at Wilson, OK. Later in life on June 3, 2003 he was baptized into the Jehovah Witness faith. Vern loved the outdoors. He spent the summers hand fishing and squirrel hunting and when the fall came he was deer hunting all three seasons; archery, black powder, and rifle. Vern was a dog lover and at the time of his death he had four special pet dachshunds. Vern will be greatly missed for he was greatly loved. Vern is survived by his wife, Rita of the home in Ada, OK. ; children, Bobby Joe Cathey and wife Kerrie of Ft. Worth, TX., Charles Wayne Cathey and wife Beverly of Alva OK., Gary Don Cathey and wife Laurie of Yukon OK., Ricky Allen Cathey of Latta OK., Barbara Ann Johnson of Wilburton OK., David Higdon of Kansas, Darryl Higdon and wife Nema of Ada, OK., Ronnie McCartney and wife Laurie of Ada, OK., Tammy Hoppe of Ada, OK.;siblings, Earl Ray Cathey and wife Janie of Idabel, OK., Glen Anderson Cathey and wife Naomi of Ada, OK., Mettie Hawkins Croy and husband John of Duncan OK.; 20 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and cousins.
