Obituary Donald "Don" Harold Loftis, age 81, an Atoka, OK resident, was born on Wednesday, April 8, 1931, to Don and Erron Viola (Allen) Loftis, at Oklahoma City, OK. Don passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Durant, OK. He attended Durant Schools and graduated from Blue High School. Don Later graduated from SOSU, with an English and speech major and received a Bachelor's Degree. Don taught school in Calera for two years, then he joined the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. He was a patrolman for around 12 years. He then became the Vice President of the Atoka State Bank, He served as Atoka County Commissioner District 3, also the Atoka City Manager and later he owned and operated the Caney Truck stop and the Skelly Distributorship. He was a lifelong farmer and rancher. He owned and operated a dairy and he retired in 1993 from Big Five. After retiring he devoted his time to gardening, raising cattle and poultry. He mostly spent time loving and mentoring his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Don served in the Oklahoma National Guard. He married Velta Jo Page on October 3, 1953 Blue, OK. Don was a longtime member and Deacon at Wards Chapel Baptist Church. He taught Sunday school and was song leader for many years. He worked as the chairman for the Atoka county election board. Don is survived by his wife, Velta Loftis of the home in Atoka, OK.; children, Sandra Dawn Whitman and husband Jim of Porum, OK., Stephen E. Loftis and wife Dawn of Atoka, OK.; grandchildren, Sarah Fugate and husband Brian of Tushka, OK., Joni Henson and husband Daniel of Porum, OK., Meagen Loftis of Caney, OK., Jennilee McKeen and husband Joseph of Owasso, OK., Stefanie Werner of Kingston, OK., Zachary Loftis of Atoka, OK., Joseph Whitman of Porum, OK.; great grandchildren, Jaxson Morris, Jolei Henson, Trenton Fugate, Natalee Fugate, Tyson Morris, Jett Henson, Waylon Werner, Jeremey McKeen, Lydia Werner, Adallie Werner, Jordan McKeen, Hayden Gilbreath; brother, Pat Loftis and wife Judy of Atoka, OK.; sister-in-law, Leta Loftis of Roberta, OK.; aunt, Maryetta Loftis of Durant, OK., along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear and loved friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Erron Viola (Allen) Loftis; brother, D.W.
