OBITUARY NAME: Donald Bruce MacAllister, age 91, a longtime Lane area resident. BORN: He was born on December 29, 1918, to Donald Bruce and Clara (Standish) MacAllister, at Arthide, Minnesota. PASSED AWAY: Donald passed away on July 25, 2010, at Lane, Oklahoma. AGE 91 YEARS 5 MONTHS AND 26 DAYS EDUCATION: He graduated High School from Lyford, Texas. Donald received his Bachelors Degree from the University of Texas, later his Masters from Southwest Texas State University. MARRIED: Donald married Ruth Ellen (Moses) in 1976, at Austin, Texas. OCCUPATION: He was a rancher and farmer, a former school teacher, and he served as county commissioner for 14 years in Willacy County, Texas. CHURCH AFFILIATION, HOBBIES, AND OTHER AFFILIATIONS: He joined the Army Air Corps at Ft. Brown, Brownsville, Tx on November 7, 1941. Transferred to Cadet Training. Graduated as 2nd Lt. Bombardier at Kirtland Field, Albuquerque, Nm. On September 26, 1942. Requested combat. Sent to Geiger Field, Spokane, Wa. Joined crew with 2nd Lt. William R. McKinley Pilot. Trained at Geiger Field, Casper, Wy. And Salina, Ks. Sent to Hamilton Field then to Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, in 1943. He flew 48 missions off Guadalcanal with the 31st and 394th Bomb Sqdns. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with Bronze Stars, American Campaign Medal, and WWII Victory Medal. Upon return to the U. S. served as instructor, flight leader, and squadron commander in Bombardier and Autopilot Schools in Reserves until May 1973 and received an Honorable Discharge as Lt. Colonel. He said *I Love my country deeply. I am proud to have served my country and proud to be an American."Donald was a member of First United Methodist Church, a member and a Master Mason of the Harlingen, Texas Lodge # 1132 and Atoka Lodge # 4. He raised Brangus cattle and received many awards including first place at the Ft. Worth Livestock show. SURVIVED BY: WIFE: Ruth MacAllister of the home in Lane, Ok. GRANDCHILDREN: Frank Bell of Denton, Tx. Valerie MacAllister of Dallas, Tx. Claire Blakemore of Midland, Tx. Bryant Blakemore of Midland, Tx. SISTERS-IN-LAW: Peggy Burdine of La Feria, Tx. Marjorie MacAllister of Sequin, Tx. Along with numerous dear and loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
