Doris Marlene (Mixon) Awtrey, age 88, a longtime Lane, OK resident, was born on Saturday, September 15, 1934, to John E and Elta (Gillham) Mixon, at Maud, OK. Doris passed away on Monday, October 3, 2022 at Calera, OK. She graduated from Atoka High School and then went on to attend SOSU. Doris was a housewife and homemaker. She married Thomas Awtrey on Wednesday, January 12th, 1955 at Amarillo, TX. They celebrated 64 years of marriage before his passing on November 29, 2019. Doris worshiped at the Church of the Rock. She enjoyed painting, arts and crafts, working in flower beds, mainly roses, and loved spending time with her family.
Doris is survived by her daughters, Cindy Sherrard and husband Tom of Lane, OK, Teresa Nelson and husband Brian of Leadville, CO, Jill Simpson and husband Ron of Paris, TX; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; brother, Bill Mixon and wife Ruby of Atoka, OK; sisters in law, Linda Mixon, Charlotte Mixon, Phyllis Mixon, Shirley MIxon; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, John E and Elta (Gillham) Mixon; husband, Thomas Awtrey; siblings, Jim Mixon, Joe Mixon, Lorene Connelly, Marjorie Anderson, Lindsay Mixon, Wendell Mixon.
