February 4, 1920 – February 29, 2020
Doris Loreta Wyrick, age 100, was born in and spent her early years in Kiowa. She later lived in Stringtown and then moved to Atoka in 1940. She was born on Wednesday, February 4, 1920, to Asa and Gertrude Marie (Hereford) Heard, at Kiowa, OK. Doris passed away on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Atoka, OK. She attended Kiowa Grade School, graduated from Stringtown High School in 1936, attended Murray State College, graduated and received a Bachelor's Degree in home economics from University of Oklahoma .and later was certified to teach English. Doris taught school at Moyers and Atoka High School. She was co-owner and operator of Wyrick Lumber Company, but most of all she was a homemaker and a housewife. She married Edward Brown Wyrick on September 28, 1940 in Eufaula, OK. They had 71 wonderful years of marriage before his passing on December 21, 2011. Doris was a 75 year member of Atoka First Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school, Bible school, and taught in the nursery. Doris was active in all the activities in the church. She loved to sew, play cards like bridge, canasta, and solitaire, and was a charter member of the Pink Iris Garden Club.
Doris is survived by her children, Carrie Wyrick Barnes and husband Gerald of Tulsa, OK, Robert Brown "Bob" Wyrick and wife Sharon of Galveston, TX; 19 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; sister, Nancy Myers and husband Dr. Lynn of Oklahoma City, OK; cousin, Benny Wyrick III and wife Lavona of Daisy, OK; caregivers and honorary family members, Becky Hinds, Donna Schultz; Along with numerous other family members, many dear and loved friends and former employees.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Edward Brown Wyrick; parents, Asa and Gertrude Marie (Hereford) Heard; daughter, Mary Lynn Wyrick; brothers, T.J "Pete" Heard, Grant L. "Dick" Heard.
