Obituary

Ellen Leona (Nix) Hight, age 94, an Atoka, OK resident, was born on Thursday, April 17, 1919, to R. A. and Ethel (Hale) Nix, at Bentley, OK. Ellen passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Atoka, OK. Ellen was the oldest of five children. Her grandfather built the Nix School at Caney. She married Jewel Hight on May 18, 1939. During her days of raising a family, they grew everything they ate; this meant canning everything you could to survive the year. Raising a garden was one of the things she missed most when she moved into town. She served as school cook at Thunderbird School for many years, and still remembered her children after they were grown and had families of their own. "Dr. Yarbrough always wanted an extra roll." Ellen derived great pleasure from being a part of the Atoka County Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary for several years. She also enjoyed going camping with the Texoma Sams Camping Chapter. Her favorite place to go camping was Beavers Bend. The pride and joy of her life were her grandchildren. She was always talking about her great grandson Ethan's accomplishments. Ellen is survived by her daughter, Louise Cain and her companion, David Crouch of Atoka, OK.; daughter-in-law, Bobbie Howard of Farmersville, TX., grandchildren, Mark Dale Cain and wife Linda of Atoka, OK., Linda Linscott and husband Ron of Atoka, OK., Robert Neil Howard and wife Jan of McKinney, TX.; great grandchildren, Ethan Hight Linscott of Shawnee, OK., Mattlyn Raelynn Cain of Kennewick, WA., Gavin Foster Cain of Kennewick, WA., Nolan Robert Howard of Houston, TX., Holly Howard Metz of McKinney, TX., Kalee Joe Howard of Farmersville, TX.; great great grandchildren, Rhylan Shea (Howard) Metz of McKinney, TX.; special friends, Carolyn Roland and Ann Lee. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, R. A. and Ethel (Hale) Nix; husband, Jewel Russell Hight; brothers, A. J. Nix, W. R. Nix, C. B. Nix, and J. D. Nix; son, Robert E. Howard; granddaughter, Robbin Runa Lamkin. ****************************************************************************** DATE OF SERVICES: 10:30 AM Saturday, September 28th, 2013 PLACE OF SERVICES: Brown's Funeral Chapel, Atoka, Oklahoma OFFICIATING: Dr. Steve Havener INTERMENT: Green Meadows Cemetery, Atoka, Oklahoma CASKETBEARERS: Ron McIninch, Bruce Usher, Lloyd Barton, Randy Daniel, Pee Wee Breeden, Don Walker SPECIAL HONORARY CASKETBEARERS: Timothy McIninch and Matthew McIninch HONORARY CASKETBEARERS: Ladies Auxiliary of Atoka County Medical Center, Texoma Sams Camping Chapter, Jim Pool, Brickie Griffin, Kevin Meadows, Cecil Mackey, George Bicknell CONDOLENCES MAY BE SENT TO THE FAMILY BY EMAIL TO: BROWNS@ATOKA.NET.
