Eugene Smith, age 86, a lifelong Stringtown, OK resident, was born on Sunday, August 28, 1932, to Evans and Eretta (Washington) Smith, at Stringtown. Eugene passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at Stringtown, OK. He attended Douglas Elementary School and Dunbar High School.
Gene was a member of the Screen Actor's Gild, appearing as a stuntman/actor in many western films. He was also a professional Rodeo Cowboy Association card holder as a steer wrestler and calf roper. He spent many years training race horses, bull dogging horses and calf roping horses, Gene lived several years in California. Gene was a member of Stringtown First Baptist Church. He was an original black cowboy from Compton and the famous El Fig Stables. Mr. Smith was quite a hand, in his day and time, he was a rodeo cowboy, working cowboy, Hollywood stuntman and more importantly, an all around good human being.
Gene is survived by his children, Susan Fears of MN, Tina Smith of Denison, TX, Patrick Smith of Atoka, OK, Robin Smith of FL, Eugene Smith Jr. of Denver, CO, Jerry Smith of Denver, CO, Chris Deer of Cushing, OK; sisters, Allie Rae Alexander of Durant, OK, Ann Smith of Oklahoma City, OK, Loretta Smith Gill and husband Kevin of Reagan, OK; brothers, Teddy Joe Smith of Durant, OK, Jimmy Smith and wife Arlene of Atoka, OK, Ricky Smith and wife Rachael of Frederick, MD; along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Evans and Eretta (Washington) Smith; brothers, Tezell Smith, Spencer Smith, Evans "Johnny" Smith; sisters, Lois Smith, Wanda Faye Winrow; special niece, Tracy Rector.
