OBITUARY

NAME: Eugene "Gene" Swindell, age 88, a Valencia CA resident was reared in Atoka County, lived  for 20 years in San Diego, and 23 years in Escondido CA until 1997 when he moved back to Atoka. 21 years later Gene moved back to Valencia, CA.

BORN: He was born on Monday, September 12, 1932, to Loyd Ovel and Zetta Sample (Swindell) Swindell, at Atoka, OK.

PASSED AWAY: Gene passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Santa Clarita, CA.

AGE:  88 years, 4 months and 25 days.

EDUCATION: He graduated from Atoka High School, attended Murray State in Tishomingo, OK, Derry Tech in Chicago, and received an Associate's Degree at San Diego State College.

OCCUPATION: As a teenager Gene was a cowboy and farm hand, join the Army as a M.P with the 45th, serving in Japan and Korea. After the army, he was a miner in Colorado, worked as a Draftsman in Chicago, and in San Diego with General Dynamics where he worked his way up to an Engineer. He owned and operated apartments and a cabin which he built himself.  Also when he came back to Atoka, he bought and operated the Colonial Motel and also owned rent houses until his health failed and he moved back to California to be closer to family.

MILITARY: Gene proudly served his country in the Army.

MARRIED: He married Joneda Johnson on September 19, 1953 in Greenville, TX and were married for 50 years, and later married Tina McDougal on January 26, 2005 in Atoka, OK. They both proceeded Eugene in death. Then later married Gloria Darken.

CHURCH AFFILIATION, HOBBIES AND OTHER AFFILIATIONS: Gene was a member of Melba Ave Church of Christ and later Lane Church of Christ and was a deacon at the Oak Hill Church of Christ in Escondido, CA. He was a bee keeper. Gene enjoyed hiking, square dancing, canoeing and sailing.
