Evelyn Joyce Newsom, age 90, a Muskogee, OK resident, was born on Saturday, July 23, 1932, to Thomas Jefferson and Mary Amizon (Walker) Satterfield, at Adel, OK. Evelyn passed away on Monday, February 6, 2023 at Muskogee, OK. She attended Adel, Clayton, and California schools. Evelyn was a housewife and worked many years as a cosmetologist in Tulsa and McAlester. She married Frank Newson Jr. in 1948 at Coalgate, OK. They spent 47 wonderful years together before his passing in 1995.Evelyn was a member of McGee Valley Baptist Church, Adel Quilting Club, and The Ladies American Legion Axillary. She was a co-owner of Crooked Board Lumber Co.
She is survived by her grandson, Corey Newsom of Muskogee, OK; daughter in law, Melissa Newsom of Muskogee, OK; sister, Cleoda 'Cubby' Duncan and husband Dwight of Clayton, OK; nephews and nieces, Bill Evans Jr. of Phoenix, AZ, Charles Eugene Evans and wife Pauline of Kansas City, MO, Patsy Edmondson and husband Jim of Checotah, OK, John Underwood and wife Francis of Apple Valley, CA, Marie Underwood of Apple Valley, CA, Joel Lee Satterfield of Arkansas, Ruth Satterfield of Kansas City, MO, Sharon Satterfield of Kansas, Kevin Hairell and wife Laura of Shawnee, OK, along with numerous cousins, other relatives, and many dear and loved friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mary Amizon (Walker) Satterfield; husband, Frank Junior Newsom; son, Barry Wayne Newsom; siblings, Rufie Evans, Willa Mae Underwood, Otis Leroy Satterfield, Bert Satterfield; niece, Barbara Underwood; nephew, Dana Underwood
