Gary "Joe" Daniel, age 80, a longtime Atoka, OK resident and a 10 year McCurtain County resident, was born on Sunday, August 30, 1942, to Loyd Kit and Mary Berneize (Hartsfield) Daniel, at Portland, OR. Joe passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Atoka, OK. He attended Clarita Public School, Lane Public School, and graduated from Atoka High School. He went on to attend Oklahoma State University where he graduated with an Animal Science degree in 1967. Joe worked 33 years for the US Department of Agriculture, Farmers Home Administration and Rural Development, and then he was a certified General Real Estate Appraiser for many years. He married Paula D. (Thompson) on Saturday, September 4th, 1965 at Mount Olive Church, Stringtown, Oklahoma. They celebrated 57 years of marriage before his passing. Joe was a lifelong Methodist. He attended Atoka Methodist Church and was a longtime Financial Chairman and Trustee. He was a Mason in Atoka Lodge 4 and was a member of the Atoka Trail Riders. Joe loved raising cattle, hunting, and his grandchildren.

Joe is survived by his wife, Paula D. Daniel of the home in Atoka, OK; daughter, Shelby Smith and husband Keith of Atoka, OK; son, Barry Daniel and wife Tammy of Atoka, OK; grandchildren, Brittney Ray and husband Zach of Nashville, TN, Keely Goff and husband Ty of Fort Smith, AR, Baily Smith of Atoka, OK, Brooklyn Daniel of Atoka, OK, Blakelyn Daniel of Atoka, OK, Drake Smith and wife Hope of Atoka, OK; great-grandchildren, Brielle Smith of Atoka, OK, Baby Ray (coming soon); siblings, Lynn Daniel and wife Shirley of Tushka, OK, Diann Clark of Mechanicsville, VA, Debbie Gilliam and husband Terry of Bradenton, FL.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Loyd Kit and Mary Berneize (Hartsfield) Daniel.
