Helen Geraldean (Evans) Layton, age 88, a lifelong Farris, Stringtown and Caney, OK area resident, was born on Thursday, August 2, 1934, to Willard William and Alberta (Chitwood) Evans, at Farris, OK. Helen passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at Durant, OK. She attended Farris and Atoka Public Schools. Helen was a housewife and homemaker. She was also a cook and did housekeeping in the local nursing homes. She married Jack Harest Layton on Friday, July 19th, 1957 at Durant, OK. They celebrated 58 years of marriage before his passing in 2015. Helen was a member of Pleasant View Freewill Baptist Church for many years. She was the most amazing cook, enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and doing arts and crafts.
Helen is survived by her children, John Layton of Coleman, OK, Debbie Crites of Durant, OK, Russell Layton and wife Michelle of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Waylon Layton of CA, Krystle Culbreath and husband James of Caney, OK, Megan Fincher and husband Scott of Caney, OK, Kacey Layton of Coleman, OK, Chelsie Bonham and husband Keith of Durant, OK, Kyle Layton and wife Ariole of Coleman, OK, Macie Eddings and husband Mason of Russett, OK, Chase Crites and wife Bailey of Coalgate, OK, Alexis Gaus of San Antonio, TX; great grandchildren, Halli Culbreath, Carson Culbreath, Ava Layton, Bree Fincher, Austin Fincher, Alex Fincher, Blakely Preston-Crites, Scout Bonham, Bexley Crites, Treyden Layton, Austin Eddings, Palmer Bonham; daughter in law, Diane Layton of Caney, OK; and her family members "employees" of Four Seasons Nursing home who lovingly referred to her as Gran; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Willard William and Alberta (Chitwood) Evans; husband, Jack Layton; son, Jackie Layton; daughter in law, Angie Layton; siblings, Alonzo Joel Evans, Charles William Evans, Walter "Bud" Hill Evans, Susan "Sis" Evelyn (Evans) Blair, Edward James Evans, Cathrine Louise Evans, Sarah "Boots" Elizabeth (Evans) Brewer, Delores "Dink" Maxine (Evans) Head, Arthur "Sonny" Willard Evans, Winfred Dale Evans, Joyce Columbine (Evans) Layton, Lois Caroline Evans.
