Helen Shields, age 79, a Kiowa, OK resident, raised in Stringtown, OK, was born on Monday, January 18, 1943, to Milliard H. and Mamie Elizabeth (Richardson) Mitchell, at Stringtown, OK. Helen passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Atoka, OK. She graduated from Stringtown High School. Helen was a housewife and homemaker. She married Francis L. Shields on Saturday, January 11th, 1964 at McAlester, OK. They celebrated 46 years of marriage before his passing on July 23, 2010. Helen was a member of Pittsburg First Baptist Church in Pittsburg, OK. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and loved the color red, watching birds and watching her great grandchildren.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Calvert and husband Kelly of Kiowa, OK; son, Russell Shields and wife Kim of Stigler, OK; grandchildren, Chris Parker and wife Dana of Quinton, OK, Seth Shields and wife Kaday of Eufaula, OK, Shane Shields and wife Jerrica of Kiowa, OK, Shay Calvert and wife Michalina of Durant, OK, Sayre Shields of Stigler, OK, Megan Scanlon and husband John of Hartshorne, OK; great grandchildren, Bryar and Gunner Parker, Foster Carney, Colt James Francis Shields, Riot Dean Scanlon, Aurora Carney, Elizabeth Marie Shields, Gentry Dee Weaver, Bentley Calvert, Kyler Inez Scanlon; sisters, Margaret Hogan of Bentley, OK, Rena Workman and husband Jimmy of Caney, OK; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Milliard H. and Mamie Elizabeth (Richardson) Mitchell; husband, Francis L. Shields; daughter, Regina Dawn; sisters, Sally White and Jr., Lora Janese "Jan" Edge, Irma Rains, Dorothy Carpenter; brothers, Glen Mitchell, Richard Mitchell, Jack McDaniel.
