Hershel James "Papa H" Howard, 72, of Milburn, Oklahoma, passed away on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020. He was born in Tushka, Oklahoma, on September 11, 1947 to Hershel Thomas Howard and Melba Geneva Smith Howard who both preceded him in death.
Hershel attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University, where he was awarded an electrical degree. He worked as a wireline engineer for most of his adult life until he retired to pursue his real passion, farming. He and Meme built their dream home on the Blue River in 1995, where he raised cattle, horses and planted a beautiful pecan orchard.
Hershel also served his country in the Vietnam War as a sergeant in the 101st Airborne. He was awarded the Good Conduct medal, Vietnam Service Award, and the Purple Heart.
Hershel is survived by his wife of 53 years, Norma Nerecai Howard; His son, Hershel James Howard II, daughter-in-law, Sheri Green Howard, grandson, Hershel James Howard III, granddaughter, Lydia Catherine Howard; daughter, Heather Jeau Jackson, son-in-law, Jeffrey Don Jackson, granddaughters, Kaiton Jeau Jackson and Kaci Dawn Jackson; brother, Larry Dean Howard, sisters, Gladys Ann Tramble, Gloria Sue O'Hern and Martha Lou Simpson; and many nieces and nephews.
His parents, Hershel Thomas and Melba Geneva Howard; brother, Thomas Perry "Pete" Howard, preceded him in death.
