Obituary

Imogene Mowdy entered Heaven on March 11, 2025, while surrounded by family and close friends. Imogene was born January 21, 1936, in Wewoka, Oklahoma to Earle and Diva Emerson. She was the youngest of seven children, all of whom preceded her in death: K.C., Karl, Earl Jr., Vernon, Marvin, and Rose. When she was 14, Imogene and her parents moved to Coalgate, Oklahoma where her father took a job as the school superintendent. They became active in the United Methodist Church where Imogene was an active member until her death. Imogene was the epitome of God's faithful servant. She met Norman Mowdy on a Sunday after church in 1952. Imogene and Norman married in 1955. They were both committed to the church and deeply committed to Christ. Together they made their home in Coalgate and raised three children who
learned the value of faith and hard work while running the family ranch. Norman passed away in 1993.

To quote Imogene:
The "becoming as one" that the Bible talks about can be a mixed blessing. When Norman died, it was as though half of me had died. Time does heal, but that other half is still gone. Each marriage is as unique as the people it joins but every marriage can be fun and rewarding. Mine was.

Despite losing the love of her life, Imogene continued to find purpose. She loved helping others and likely cared for many angels-in-disguise over the years. Imogene enjoyed being outdoors, and she loved to travel. She had an adventurous spirit and never turned down a trip, but she preferred "the roads less traveled". She managed to visit almost every continent in the world and even climbed Machu Pichu on her last adventure to Peru. In addition to Imogene's fun and adventurous side, she was also an immensely hard worker and continued to work in the legal field until a few months ago. Imogene treasured her time with family, and she adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as countless close friends—many of whom she considered to be family.

Imogene is survived by her children: Clay and Kit Mowdy, Lisa and Matt McKeon, and Tracy and Steve Penney; her grandchildren: Matt and Sarah Mowdy, Andrew and Hayley McKeon, Kate and Andrew Geisel, Caitlin and Mark Mullin, Ty and Morgan Mowdy, Rob and Taylor Penney, Ian and Alexa Penney, Will Penney, Brooke Penney, Rosa Penney, and Faith Penney; and her great grandchildren: Madeline Mowdy, Minnie McKeon, Clyde Mullin, and Edna Imogene Penney. She will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.
