Obituary

Irma Lou Rains, age 76, a longtime Atoka, OK resident, was born on Monday, October 23, 1944, to Millard H. and Mamie E. (Richardson) Mitchell, at Stringtown, OK. Irma passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Burleson, TX after losing her battle to cancer. She married the father of her two children, Gary Rains on April 24, 1964. She was a member of Bentley Baptist Church. Irma worked for 26 years at Underwood and Thomas Insurance Agency. After leaving the insurance company she went to work for McGee Creek Rock and Stone where she worked for 10 years until her retirement in 2019. Irma loved her family more than anything in the world. Her two children were her pride and joy but couldn't measure up to the two great loves of her life, her grandchildren. She enjoyed being with them and watching them grow into young adults and achieve all their goals. If you ever asked her about them they both were perfect, the smartest, best looking, kind and most athletic two kids ever to be born. She also loved spending time with her siblings, she said they would all be in trouble without her to tell them the right thing to do. The other great loves of her life were her nieces and nephews, each and everyone of them thought they were her favorite because that was how she made you feel, but of course she didn't believe in favorites. She was either Grandma or Aunt Irm to all kids and adults, if you were important to someone in her family, you were important to her. Everyone would come to her for advice and comfort. Irma had a love for God, family and her country. She believed her greatest accomplishment was raising her children in church and giving them a love for God that they passed down to their children. This gave her comfort in her last days when she said "I get to finally meet Jesus and I know my family will be okay because they know Jesus."
Irma is survived by her daughter, Amy Huffman and husband John of Grandview, TX; son, Mark Rains of Lane, OK; grandchildren, Emily Rains and Cole Walker of Atoka, OK, Elijah Huffman Golden of Grandview, TX; sisters, Margaret Hogan of Bentley, OK, Helen Shields of Kiowa, OK, Rena "Pete" Workman and husband Jimmy of Caney, OK; brother, Glen Mitchell of Stringtown, OK; father of her children, Gary Rains of Bentley, OK; special sisters in law, Wilma Sorrells of Bentley, OK, Shirley Mobbs and husband Roy of Bentley, OK; special friends, Marsha Lankford, Larry Keeler, Larry Payne, Leonard Caves, Alfred Elliott; along with nieces, nephews who loved her dearly, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
