Name: Jack Quaid, a resident of Wardville, OK BORN: Dec. 5, 1919 in Como, Tx, to Edgar Garland & Cenis May "Mabel" (Forkner) Quaid Passed Away: Monday, August 4, 2008 at his home in Wardville Age: 88 years, 8 months Education: Attended Coalgate East Side school, Coal Hill, Cottonwood, & Ashland where in graduated in 1939 Married: Christine Bailey on June 23, 1945 at 1st Baptist Church in Atoka, OK Church Affiliation: member of Kiowa Baptist Church Other: Jack was born James Glenn Quaid on Dec. 5, 1919 to Edgar Garland & Cenis May "Maybel" (Forkner) Quiad in Como, TX. His father passed away when Jack was 13 months old., and he and his mother moved to Oklahoma. She later married Tom McGraw . This was the man who Jack call "Daddy". He taught us everything, Jack said on numerous occasions. In the early 40's he supervised a group of women called the EGG BEATERS at the Denison Poultry & egg plant. Jack grew up in the Coalgate, Cottonwood & Ashland areas. In January of 1940, he went to work for the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in road construction, but changes jobs with the CCC and became proficient in woodworking by June 1941. This is where he learned the carpentry trade which served him well for many years. Other jobs he held included working for Globe Aircraft in FT Worth, TX in 1943. He worked on the Beech AT-10 "Wichita" as a wood frabrication worker. The Wichita was made entirely of wood and Jack enjoyed sharing stories about it with his friends and family. He worked as a Boiler Mechanic for Shamrock Oil and Gas at the McKerr Plant in Sunray, TX, worked at the Naval Ammunition Depots at Hastings, Nebraska and McAlester, OK; he built many houses in the Southeast Oklahoma area, he retired from the State of Oklahoma, Department of Human Services Maintenance Branch as a carpenter supervisor in 1982, after approximately 14 years of service. In addition to being a carpenter, Jack always had a love of ranching and raising cattle. He joking called it having "cow fever" . He loved being around people, playing dominoes(moon) , going to dances, and always had a story to tell.
