James Richard Russell, age 79, a longtime resident of Mena, AR who recently married and moved to Wapanucka, OK, was born on Tuesday, January 12, 1943, to Richard James and Gladys Florence (Letts) Russell, at Fairview, MO. James passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Atoka, OK. He attended Arvin School in Arvin, CA. James was an owner/operator long distance truck driver. He was married Shirley Simon Cozzi for 26 years, she preceded him in death in 2017. He later married Patricia (VanVebber) on Saturday, April 30th, 2022 at Wapanucka, OK. James was a member of First Baptist Church of Wapanucka. He enjoyed riding 4 wheelers, dancing, camping, hunting, fishing, being in the outdoors, loved taking care of his dogs, Annie and Pepper, and spending time with family and friends.
James is survived by his wife, Patricia McCurry of the home in Wapanucka, OK; children, Lorna Hoobler of Bakersville, CA, Michelle Ross and husband Travis of Mena, AR, Sherry Russell of Bakersfield, CA; grandchildren, Nicholas Minor, Ethan Ross, Jared Hoobler, Kylie Gaines, Michelle Hokett, Nichole Pirtle, Austin Pirtle, Amber Pirtle; siblings, Bonnie Elkins of Marysville, CA, JoAnn Selvey of Freeport, FL; dogs, Annie and Pepper of the home; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Richard James and Gladys Florence (Letts) Russell; previous wife, Shirley Simon Cozzi; siblings, Judy Lopez, Darrell Russell.
