Jeffery "Jeff" Wade Sewell, age 58, an Atoka, OK resident, raised in OKC in his early years, moved to Coalgate in grade school and then moved to Atoka his freshman year in high school, was born on Friday, November 3, 1961, to Max Lee and Billye Sue (Thomas) Sewell, in Oklahoma City, OK. Jeff passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2020 in Denison, TX. He attended Telstar, Oak Ridge, his favorite elementary school Little Axe, Coalgate, Atoka High School where he graduated in 1980. Jeff graduated from East Central University with a Bachelor Degree in Accounting and went on to attend the OHP Academy in 1988, graduating in July 1988 from the 43rd Academy. Jeff was Junior High quarterback, linebacker, tight end and defensive end for Atoka High School. He was named All District and All Area football player for Atoka and was said to be one of the toughest players Atoka produced. He refereed football 35 years before he retired from refereeing. Jeff worked for Breeden Texaco and Morris Cochran Equipment, Bill Flowers Construction, Mechanical Services and he began his career in law enforcement with the OHP where he worked his way to Captain. He served OHP in numerous locations throughout Oklahoma. Jeff was shot in the line of duty in November 1988 while serving the OHP in Roger Mills County. He then received Trooper of the year in 1988. He married Ellen Denise Ring on Saturday, July 24th, 1982 at Ada, OK. They celebrated 38 years of marriage before his passing. Jeff was a longtime member of Atoka First Baptist Church where he was very involved and served as Deacon and taught Sunday School through the years. He was DARE instructor for several area schools, active with the Cadet Lawmen Academy for 31 years, was TAC Supervisor with the OHP 55th academy in 2005. Jeff was a rancher and enjoyed his cattle and baling hay. He was very involved in the local Special Olympics and Tip A Cop, always attended the Special Olympics summer games in Stillwater, OK, was very passionate about football, was a several time marathon finisher, ran OKC Bombing Marathon three different times, volunteer fireman for Atoka seven and a half years and was Firefighter of the year in 1995. Jeff was actively involved in Celebrate Recovery -Atoka, The Sarah House, a recovery program, and got the most enjoyment entertaining the old coffee drinkers at the Atoka Truck Stop at table 12. More than anything Jeff loved being "Pa" to his 5 grandchildren.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Ellen Denise Sewell of the home in Atoka, OK; mother, Sue Flowers of Atoka, OK; children, Jenni Allen and husband Tommy of Bentley, OK, Randi Sue Hauff and husband Casey of Atoka, OK; 5 grandchildren, Mady Hauff of Atoka, OK, Kamri Hauff of Atoka, OK, Kamrynn Allen of Bentley, OK, Logan Joy Sewell of Atoka, OK, Kasen Max Allen of Bentley, OK; siblings, Tom Sewell and wife Debbie of Plano, TX, Wayne Sewell and wife Maria of Atoka, OK, Tammi Miller and husband Danny of Atoka, OK, Hugh Sewell and friend Diane Durant of Atoka, OK, Dennis Flowers and wife Debra of Coleman, OK, Jerry Flowers and wife Maressa of Union City, OK, Rhonda Lacy and husband Don of Clinton, OK; mother in law, Joy Ring of Holdenville, OK; brother in law, Russell Ring and wife Tina of Holdenville, OK; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Max Lee Sewell; father, Bill Flowers; father in law, John Ring; brother in law, John Randall Ring; nephew, Benji Sewell.
