IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jeffrey Wayne
Lukas
November 29, 1957 – March 23, 2016
OBITUARY
NAME: Jeffrey Wayne Lukas, age 58, an Atoka, OK resident, formerly of LaCrosse, WI.
BORN: He was born on Friday, November 29, 1957, to Wayne and Janet Lukas, at LaCrosse, WI.
PASSED AWAY: Jeff passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Atoka, OK.
AGE: 58 years, 3 months and 23 days.
EDUCATION: Jeff graduated from Logan High School where he was a star basketball, and an all-state football player. Jeff was just shy of graduating college, but decided to join his father, Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas, and played a key role in building the foundation of what would eventually become the top ranked Father-Son run Thoroughbred Racing Stable in the world.
OCCUPATION: Jeff was a horse trainer. He worked at First Bank for the past several years in the lending and insurance department in Atoka.
CHURCH AFFILIATION, HOBBIES AND OTHER AFFILIATIONS: Jeff was known as a great horseman and a mentor to many giving a start to well-known trainers-his impact will continue for years to come and a deep loss to those that give him credit for their start. He was well known for staying out of the lime-light, and his strong daily work ethic with a no-nonsense approach to doing things right.
Jeff is heralded as one of the brightest stars in Thoroughbred racing and is widely remembered for his winning role with Winning Colors, the filly who won the Kentucky Derby in 1988. His stellar career was abruptly ended when he suffered a life threatening brain injury when he bravely tried to halt a loose prize thoroughbred-Tabasco Cat, who won the Preakness and Belmont Stakes six months later.
Post racing life, he enjoyed playing golf, spending time with his children, and following his beloved Green Bay Packers.
