Obituary

OBITUARY NAME: Jimmie Lee Mixon, age 85, a longtime Atoka, OK resident. BORN: He was born on Thursday, January 30, 1930, to John E. and Elta (Gillham) Mixon, at Maud, OK. Jim had 7 brothers and sisters, he was a twin to Joe. PASSED AWAY: Jimmie went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Plano, TX. AGE: 85 years, 4 months and 3 days. EDUCATION: He attended grade school at Central in Seminole, OK until 4th grade. He then attended Atoka Public School where he graduated in 1948. OCCUPATION: Jim worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company since 1949. He retired February 1992 after 43 years. Jim also retired from Atoka Volunteer Fire Department after 20 years service. He was very proud to be a part of both. MILITARY: Jim served in the Oklahoma National Guard. MARRIED: He dated Bonnie Jean Allen during his junior and senior year in school. They married November 5, 1949. Being a Mixon Jim went deer hunting nearly immediately after the wedding. She preceded him in death on May 7, 2008. He later married Shirley (Campbell) in May 2009. He loved her very much and she was a great partner and a blessing for him. CHURCH AFFILIATION, HOBBIES AND OTHER AFFILIATIONS: Jim believed in Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He attended and loved First Baptist Church in Atoka where he and his first wife and his second wife were members for many years. Jim lived in Atoka, an area where there was plenty of room to hunt and several lakes to fish. He liked to stay busy. Jim was a deer hunter, turkey hunter, and fisherman. Most years, he killed the biggest and best buck in his family. To his family, he was always the Guide, someone who knew the land and how to hunt the big bucks. Even when his eyesight was not as good as it had been in his youth, he could still spot and kill a buck at 200 yards with no trouble. Jim will always live on, in the hearts of his family and in the stories we tell. He was a fantastic husband, father, and a gentleman.
