John "Johnny" Palmer Winters, age 87, a lifelong Stringtown, OK resident. He was born on Wednesday, September 23, 1936, to John Roy and Mamie Doris (Malone) Winters, at Stringtown, OK. Johnny passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at his home in Stringtown, OK. He graduated from Stringtown High School in 1954. Johnny was an owner/operator, worked a number of years at the Stringtown Rock Crusher and worked from 1983 to 1998 for the Department of Corrections in maintenance. He married Virginia Christine (Beal) on Thursday, November 25th, 1954 at Atoka, OK. They celebrated almost 69 years of marriage before her passing on August 15, 2023.  Johnny was a longtime member of the Stringtown Presbyterian Church and was later affiliated with Stringtown First Baptist Church. He loved feeding and taking care of cattle, improving his property, reading and being current on cattle and livestock news, loved to work and being with his family.
Johnny is survived by his sons, John R. Winters and wife Lynn of Antlers, OK, Larry B. Winters and wife Lisa of Savannah, OK, Kelly J. Winters of Stringtown, OK; grandchildren, Roy B. Winters and wife Amanda of Piedmont, MO, Amber L. Buchanan and husband Jonathan of Fayetteville, AR, Michelle Moyer and husband Randle of Antlers, OK, Kristopher Winters of Durant, OK, Kaleb L. Winters of Stringtown, OK; great grandchildren, Snowey Dawn Winters, Jones Winters, Luke D. Buchanan, Isabelle Buchanan, Abby Cole, Khylei Winters, Calvin Moyer; sisters in law, Nancy Williams, Yvonne Foley; sister, Nancy Grimes and husband Lonnie; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mamie Winters; wife, Virginia Winters; in laws, Jones Peeler and Lillie Beal; brothers in law, Charles Foley, Clyde Williams; sister in law, Sue Davis.
