IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joy Wynell
Cochran
November 29, 2022
Joy Wynell (Marlow) Cochran passed from this life on November 29, 2022 at her home in Atoka, OK. She was born on February 29 of a leap year to Toy and Hildred (Armstrong) Marlow in Atoka, OK. (She made Marvin promise not to disclose her birth year because she didn't want her age to be known.) She was a life long member of Harmony Baptist Church. She attended Harmony Grade School, where she was, according to her teachers, a very courteous, dependable and obedient student. Her teachers stated on her report cards that her weakest subject was her numbers but she was improving every year. This training came in handy for years later when she became the meticulous bookkeeper for the Cochran GMC Truck Garage where she worked along side her husband, Marvin. Joy attended and graduated from Atoka High School. She was elected the very first queen in the Future Farmers of America. She met Marvin while in high school and asked him to take her to lunch since he had a car. They went to lunch together every day after that. Marvin says he was so shy that if Joy had not have made the first move they might not have gone on to marry. After graduation, Joy married Marvin on February 13th, 1950 at Ft. Smith, AR. This union produced a wonderful and feisty son, who they named Darrell Eugene. They moved to Muskogee while Marvin worked as a mechanic for International Harvester. In 1953 thru 1957 they traveled all over the U.S. working for North American Van Lines. Joy even helped Marvin drive the truck when he got tired. They were stopped by a Highway Patrol once but they switched places before the officer got to the door. In 1957 they moved back to Atoka where they opened their very own business called Cochran GMC Truck Garage where Marvin repaired trucks and Joy kept the books. Joy was a meticulous bookkeeper and together they worked a very successful business. Marvin and Joy loved to travel and would visit many places in their motor home, making many wonderful memories and friends along the way. They traveled from Canada to Mexico and many places between. Joy also helped drive their 38 ft motorhome that was usually pulling a boat and a jeep. Joy also loved to hunt and fish and usually excelled with her gun to bring down a deer from her heated tree stand. There is a 10lb Northpike fish mounted and hanging on the wall caught by Joy. When grandchildren Brad and Tim came along, MeMe loved them with all her heart. They were the light of her life. When great-grandchildren Parker and Reid were added to the family, she loved them just as much. Joy was also a very good cook. Her meals and pies were appreciated immensely by her family. Her daughter in law credits Joy and her mother Hildred for teaching her to make dressing for Thanksgiving and Christmas. The last meal Joy was able to eat was dressing on Thanksgiving and she enjoyed it very much.
Joy is survived by her husband, Marvin of the home; son, Darrell and wife Marleah of Atoka, OK; sister, Floy Crawford of Oklahoma City, OK; grandsons, Brad Cochran of Caddo, OK, Tim Cochran and wife Sheila of McAlester, OK; great grandchildren, Parker Reese Cochran and Reid Elliott Cochran of McAlester, OK; wonderful caretaker, Carolyn Knight who took special care and treated her like a mother; along with other relatives and many dear friends.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Toy and Hildred Marlow; along with many uncles, aunts and other dear relatives.
