Obituary

Mary Katherine Hooe, age 81, a Coalgate, OK resident. She was born on Saturday, August 20, 1938, to Robert and Sarah Ollie (Dennis) Hooe, at Wardville, OK. Katherine was the 9th of 10 children born to that family. Mary passed away on at Ruth Wilson Hurley Manor, her home for the past 2 years, on Friday, March 6, 2020 at Coalgate, OK. Katherine attended elementary school at Wardville and high school at both Limestone Gap and Hurst, TX, where she graduated in 1957. After high school she worked at the Blue Bell plant in Coalgate, OK, the ammunition plant in Savannah, OK, and then finally at Tinker Air Force Base in Mid-West City, OK. In 1978 after suffering a life changing accident while on the job at Tinker Air Force Base, she retired from the workforce and eventually moved back to Wardville. Katherine had a unique determination to not only live but to live life to the fullest. Following her injury, she learned to walk again, she learned to swim, participated in therapeutic horseback riding, and took cake decorating classes. She made all the cakes for family weddings and birthday's for many years.During retirement Katherine devoted her time to helping others, volunteering at Mary Hurley Hospital for 20 years, and the library system's literacy program teaching individuals to read. She was a member of the Coalgate First United Methodist Church, and loved reading romance novels and westerns. She was always willing to provide transportation for less fortunate neighbors for doctor's appointments and shopping. She was always eager to provide child care for great nieces and nephews whenever needed. She watched Wheel of Fortune every evening, loved her summer potted plants, her hummingbirds, and trips to Walmart. Katherine's greatest love was for her parents, brothers, sisters and brothers and sisters in law, all those nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews and cousins. Many years ago, Katherine had her monument erected at the Wardville cemetery, the epitaph she chose summed up her attitude toward life. She wants to be remembered with laughter.
