IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Laverne Vivian
Cooper
August 6, 1933 – October 20, 2023
LaVerne Vivian Cooper left this world on October 20, 2023. She will be remembered as a loving, caring mother and 'Granny' who was devoted to her family and her faith in our Heavenly Father. She was always smiling, bragging on her children, grandchildren, and great grandson, who were the joy of her life. She was surrounded by her family as she peacefully joined her Heavenly Father at the age of 90.
She was born to JB and Stella White on August 6, 1933 in Putnam, Texas. She spent her childhood with her parents and 6 siblings in Caddo, OK, where she graduated from Caddo High School in 1952.
LaVerne met Lacey Cooper, a handsome man from Atoka, OK in the summer of 1949. Three years later on August 24, 1952 they were married at a preacher's home in Durant, OK. LaVerne and Lacey started their life together in Oklahoma and spent their 71 years together living in places like Alaska, New Jersey, Illinois, and eventually returned to their home in Atoka. Lacey was the love of her life.
LaVerne loved to travel with her husband, family and friends. She also spent many years working for Atoka Public Schools. She loved the time spent with students and their families. Anyone who knew LaVerne knew she was a devout Christian. She loved attending church, participating in church activities and teaching VBS. She could always be heard around the house singing hymns and talking to her Heavenly Father. LaVerne's children and grandchildren were the light of her world. She was always attending their sporting events, celebrating their successes, and bragging to anyone who would listen.
She is survived by her husband, Lacey Cooper; children, Carla and husband Phillip Ward, Connie and husband Dwayne Howard; grandchildren, Todd Howard, Bronwyn and husband Jamie Chapman, Samantha Howard and Brockton Ward; great grandchild, Pitch Howard; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other loved family and friends.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, JB and Stella White; siblings, Randolph White, Willene Huckaby, Iona Varner, Xenia Lillard, Sylvia Goss, and Clarence White.
