Longtime businessman, Leonard Sheffield, Jr. went to be with our Lord and Savior Saturday, July 21, 2012, at the age of 81, with his family at his side. Leonard was born March 5, 1931 in Lane, OK, the eldest son of Leonard and Florence (Butler) Sheffield. He graduated from Atoka High School and went on to earn a Bachelors of Business Administration from the University of New Mexico. He bravely served in the Korean War as a sergeant in the U.S. Amy. He married the love of his life, Sarah Jane (Emde) on December 22, 1953 in Ruidoso, NM. They celebrated 58 wonderful years together. He lived the American Dream. Starting as an employee, he then worked his way up to owning a furniture, carpet, appliance, and hardware business in Alamogordo, NM. He also had an interest in commercial real estate and enjoyed building and making property improvements. He was a member of the Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Businessmen's Association and the Gideons International. Leonard loved his country and served four terms in the New Mexico State Legislature improving people's lives and his community. He was a member of the Lane Baptist Church.
