March 31, 1931 – February 6, 2025
Maricie (Work) Smith, age 93, a lifelong Atoka County, OK resident was raised in the Darwin and Farris area. She was born on Tuesday, March 31, 1931, to Buck and Lousina (Graman) Work, at Darwin, OK. Maricie passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at her son's home in Centerpoint, OK surrounded by her loved ones. She attended Kellond, Antlers and Centerpoint Schools and graduated from Atoka High School with the class of 1953. She went on to SOSU where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and then went on to receive a Master's Degree in Early Child Education. Maricie worked at Diaper Jeans and Wranglers Mfg as a machine operator, nurse's aide at Hubbard Nursing home and taught school at Farris and Lane. She married her longtime sweetheart, Troy Smith, and they were married almost 57 years before his passing in 2009. Maricie was a longtime member of Farris Baptist Church. She was active in Vacation Bible School and served on different committees, was an active member of Choctaw Nation where she served in different functions. She enjoyed singing Choctaw hymns with the choir, gardening, canning food (showing them at the county fair) and loved being with her family. Maricie was a true example of faith, family and culture.
Maricie is survived by her children, Graylan Smith and wife Carolyn of Centerpoint, OK, Rita Brummett of Centerpoint, OK, Aaron Smith and wife Jamie of Centerpoint, OK; grandchildren, Michael Smith and wife Tisha of Centerpoint, OK, Andrea Smith and husband Lee of Centerpoint, OK, Troy Brummett and wife Julie of Tulsa, OK, Lee Ann Tolle and husband Brian of Sapulpa, OK, Ryan Brummett and wife Amanda of Moore, OK, Tracy Haney and husband Wes of Alaska, Sheila McGee and husband Randell of Atoka, OK; 19 great grandchildren; sister, Betty Work of Farris, OK; niece, Darlene Storie and husband Jeff of Denison, TX; along with other nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
Maricie was preceded in death by her parents, Buck and Lousina Work; husband, Troy Smith; son in law, Keiv Brummett; brother, Jack Work.******************************************************************************
