Marilyn Sue (Witherspoon) Clemens, a Coalgate resident, was born on December 29, 1945, to David Crockett and Lila Miriam (Williams) Witherspoon, at Wardville, Oklahoma. She passed away on October 30, 2026, at her home in Coalgate surrounded by the ones she loved, at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 1 day old. She started school at Wardville and after it closed, she attended Limestone Gap. Marilyn graduated from Coalgate High School with the Class of 1963, then later attended East Central University. She was High School Football Homecoming Queen at Coalgate High which started the tradition that carried down to a daughter and granddaughter. She worked at the Dairy Dream during high school and college. Marilyn married James Willard Clemens on May 2, 1964, at the Coalgate Baptist Church officiated by Vernell West. They were blessed with 62 wonderful years together. She worked for Coalgate Public Schools as their secretary for 25 years until her retirement.
Marilyn was a longtime member of the Coalgate Methodist Church. She enjoyed camping and fishing where she could sit for hours and enjoy friends and family. Marilyn liked farming, ranching, raising cattle, watching rodeos, the PBR, and was a big OU Sooner and OKC Thunder fan. She served on the Coal County Livestock Board for 25 years. Marilyn attended OYE and livestock shows where she and Melva Thomas would braid calves tails. Marilyn was a very good cook, especially her homemade yeast rolls and turkey and dressing. She made the best cobblers, but everyone loved her peach ones best. Marilyn enjoyed drinking diet Pepsi. There was no one Marilyn loved spending time with any more than her husband, Jim. She always wanted him with her to go shopping and travelling. They attended many sporting events together. Marilyn and Jim enjoyed going to Robber’s Cave each year for 55 years. If they were there on Sunday mornings, she would bring out her Bible and have a church service with her family. They both loved and cherished their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
