Obituary


Marilyn Ann Case Whittington, age 83, a long time Atoka, OK resident, was born on December 18, 1939, to Jefferson Davis and Lizzie Lovell Case.  Marilyn passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023, at Medical City Hospital in Plano, Texas, after a brief illness.  Marilyn was the youngest of the Case family's 12 children, two boys and ten girls and graduated from Atoka High School in 1957.  She then attended Oklahoma State University before marrying Kinion Whittington in Atoka on August 15, 1959.  Her husband's career led them to Mississippi, Ohio and Florida before returning to Atoka in 1972 with their four children, Mark Edward, Steven Paul, Kinion Edward and James Michael.  In addition to being a wife and mother, she was also a successful local businesswoman as a real estate broker and mortgage lender.  She pushed her children to be successful and she and her husband provided them with every educational opportunity.  She was active in the Atoka Garden Club and various Bridge groups.  She and Kinion traveled the world extensively making life-long friendships along the way and continued traveling with those friends after Kinion's passing.  Marilyn  was from the 1950s style hard working, well dressed, their quality time consisted of working in their immaculate yards and playing bridge.  Later in life, she spent much of her later time enjoying, cruising around the world from the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Baltic Sea, and into China and Russia, she was well traveled and well-versed.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Mark Edward and wife Susan of Choctaw, OK, Kinion Edward and wife Erica of Durant, OK, and James Michael of Atoka, OK; grandchildren Tyler Whittington and wife Maddie of Kiowa, OK,  Kinion Blake Whittington of Atoka OK, Nicholas Whittington of Atoka, OK, Lexie McDaniel of Durant, OK, Ava McDaniel of Durant OK.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Kinion Whittington; her son, Steven Paul Whittington: parents Jefferson and Lizzie Case; and her siblings Lucille Williams, Earl Case, Christine Magness, Kathrine Fundaro, Merlene Bonner, Pauline Williams, Jerry Johnson, Charlene Poliakoff, Harold Case, Norma Redman, and Carolyn Owens.

Marilyn lived a full and productive life and had taken care of critically ill family members for much of her life.  She passed with a firm belief that she had met her obligations to family and at the same time had not missed out on what life had to offer.  She faced death courageously and was ready to be with the ones she loved who had preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February  22 nd at 2:00 p.m. at the Atoka First Baptist Church.
