Marion Hyatt
Jr.
July 17, 1937 – February 16, 2020
Marion Hyatt, Jr. age 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Sunday, February 16th in his home in Atoka, OK.
Marion was born July 17, 1937, the first child of Marion Sr. and Ocie (Wood) Hyatt in Atoka, OK.
Marion grew up in Atoka where he graduated from high school in 1955 with honors. He earned a business degree from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK in 1960.
Marion married Nancy Norton on Valentine's Day in 1958 in Atoka and they enjoyed 62 years of marriage together.
After graduating from OU, he worked for the Good Year Co. in Ada, Sapulpa and Chickasha. In 1961, he and his dad started the Hyatt Redi-Mix Concrete Co. in Atoka, which they operated for 17 years. After selling the Redi-Mix Co., Marion started attending Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant and earned a Masters degree in Science and Math. He taught school one year then bought the Sears Store in Atoka which he and his son, Steve, ran for 11 years.
Marion was a charter member of the South Atoka Church of Christ, and served as an elder for 17 years. He was considered a scholar in Bible History and a gifted Bible Class Teacher. Marion loved learning something new. He was an avid reader of science books and enjoyed a good joke book. He enjoyed playing dominoes, games and acting in plays. Marion and Nancy traveled extensively having visited all 50 states and Europe 3 times. They took several cruises to the Caribbean Islands including one that went through the Panama Canal.
Marion enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His favorite game with them was, "If I catch you in my recliner, I'll throw you on the bed". That lasted until they were about 8 years old.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy of the home in Atoka, OK; son, Steve Hyatt and wife Teresa of Atoka, OK; daughter, Cindy Hyatt of Sefner, Fl; grandchildren, Randy Hyatt and wife Amy of Atoka, OK, Jered Hyatt and wife Jessica of Durant, OK,. Jamie Pilkington and husband Chase of Edmond, OK, Jade Philipoom of Boston, MA, Jasmine Philipoom of Cleveland, OH; great grandchildren, Tanner Hyatt of Tishomingo, OK, Kodi Jo Hyatt of Bogata, TX, Skyler Pilkington of Edmond, OK, Jaymison Flynn and wife Ellie of Atoka, OK, Chloe Flynn of Atoka, OK; sister, Virginia Copeland of Grand Prairie, TX; nephews, Butch Vietta of Atoka, OK, Ricky Vietta and wife Carla of Atoka, OK, Brian Copeland and wife Elizabeth of Atlanta, GA; his only first cousin, Leota Hensley of Henryetta, OK; along with other family and many dear freinds.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Marion Sr. and Ocie (Wood) Hyatt; sister, Dorothy Vietta and her husband Eugene Vietta; brother in law, Jim Copeland; great granddaughter, Morgan Flynn;
