Marvin Richard Phillips passed from this life on September 27, 2024, surrounded by his family.  Marvin was born on October 23, 1944 in Caney, Oklahoma to Raymond Richard Phillips and Minnie Leona (Hobson) Phillips.  Marvin spent his early childhood in Caney until his family moved to Durant while he was in middle school. Marvin graduated from Durant High school in 1963 and continued his education at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, graduating with a degree in business in 1969.  After graduation, Marvin joined the Oklahoma National Guard and Army Reserve and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1976.  Marvin and Sarah Ann (Bonham) Phillips married on July 1, 1977 and spent 47 years together enjoying life with their family and friends.  Marvin had a long career in banking starting at Durant Bank & Trust (now First United Bank) and working at other community banks over the years including First State Bank in Tishomingo, First American Bank in Roff and ending at Republic Bank in Tecumseh as local bank president which under his watch became a branch of First United Bank.  Marvin left local banking to become a bank examiner where he retired from his banking career.  Marvin co-founded Personal Care Home Health with his wife, Sarah.  After retiring a second time from the home health business, Marvin and Sarah moved to Atoka where Marvin established a local liquor store, Atoka Package.  After selling Atoka Package, Marvin moved to Harmony, Oklahoma to Sarah's family's farm and enjoyed his remaining years gardening, landscaping and teaching the next generation proper fire techniques. Marvin enjoyed sports whether it was cheering on his favorite Earlsboro Wildcats basketball team or the many local teams of his children and grandchildren. His favorite sports team, however, was his beloved OU Sooners, whom he cheered for loudly until the end. Marvin and Sarah's life together brought happiness to many including providing foster care to twins Aiden Owen and Caiden Lohezaholtz and hosting an international student from  Denmark, Maria Sander. Marvin loved collecting Case knives and rare and interesting coins throughout his life and always enjoyed showing you his "collection." Marvin was a yellow dog democrat his entire voting life and enjoyed lively political debates with people from both sides of the aisle always knowing that in the end it was really making meaningful relationships and sharing different points of view that was the spice of life.  Ultimately, Marvin cherished his time on Sarah's family's farm that they had restored and renovated together over the years.  He loved his family and friends and loved caring for his animals, especially his dogs.

Marvin is predeceased by his father, Raymond Richard Phillips, mother, Minnie Leona (Hobson) Phillips; sister in law Clarice Juna (Corley) Phillips; brother in law, Jack Rambo; and son in law, Jeff Goff.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Sarah Ann (Bonham) Phillips of Harmony; children: Lashelle Goff of Atoka, April Phillips and husband Mark of Atoka, Greg Phillips and wife Marti of Durant, Amy Denton and husband Derek of Lane, and Baby Brittany Phillips of Harmony; siblings: Wayne Phillips of Harmony, sisters Regina Earles and husband Mark of Denison, Texas and Dotty Rambo of Denison, Texas; brothers in law Virgil Bonham and wife Rhonda and Glen Bonham and wife Pam, sister in law Yvette Ryan and husband Stewart; grandchildren: Sierah Phillips and wife Isabel Alvarado, Kale Phillips, Drew Denton, Taylor Jackson, Cameron Denton, Mason Denton, David Chappel, Nathan Goff and Anastasia Romero, Osvaldo Arellano and Stormy Nanney, Aeden Mullen, Eli Mullen, Mason Phillips and Faith Isenberg, Dorothy Chappel, Jamie Snowden, and Lillie Mae Phillips; great grandchildren: Whitley Bennett and Josiah Scroggins; and numerous nieces and nephews. Marvin leaves behind many lifelong friends including Tracy Northcutt, Felicia Riley, Chris Shannon, Randy Foster, David Holley, Willy Brooks, Eddy Brown, Jimmy Smith, Donald Ray Permetter, James Nash, Norma Anderson, Perry Wilson, James Cornell, Dr. Noel Emerson, Dian Walston, PA-C, Harold Stephens, Dr. Noel Emerson, Dian Walston, PA-C, and JJ & Nelda Burrows.

There will be a private memorial in Lane, Oklahoma.  In lieu of flowers, please consider planting a pecan tree to enjoy with your family for years to come.
