Mary Edith Prater, age 79, an Atoka, OK resident, who also lived in California for 25 years, was born on Tuesday, September 7, 1943, to Hollie Owen and Ruby Alene (Birchfield) Prater, at Bentley, OK.Mary passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023 at McAlester, OK. She attended Farris Elementary School. Mary worked in restaurants when she lived in California, and was a homemaker. She married Gary Dewayne Hurd Sr., he preceded her in death. Mary was of the Baptist faith. She loved to fish and loved music, especially Neil Diamond.
She is survived by her children, Lana Justus of Atoka, OK, Gary Hurd Jr. of Konawa, OK; grandchildren, Chreasto Villa Castano of Dallas, TX, Brenton Sides and wife Stevie of TX, Stefan Sides of Tulsa, OK, David Rounsville, Mary (Hurd) Rederson and Kristin of Oklahoma City, OK, Tasha Hurd of Oklahoma City, OK; great granddaughter, Charlotte Pederson of Oklahoma City, OK; sisters, Lillie Boone of Atoka, OK, Dorothy Silvers of Calera, OK; uncle and aunt, Bunnie and Bea Birchfield of Farris, OK; along with numerous other loved ones and dear friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Hollie Owen and Ruby Alene (Birchfield) Prater; husband, Gary Dewayne Hurd Sr.; son, Darrell Sides; brother, Owen Prater; infant children, Tammy, Mary; nephew, Roger Moore
