Obituary

Michael Ray Darst, age 72, a lifelong Atoka, OK resident except for a little time he lived in California. He was born on Monday, November 10, 1952, to Clifford Darst and Nellie Kennedy, at Durant, OK. Michael passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Denison, TX. He attended school and graduated from Tulare Union High School, Tulare, CA. Michael was a plant operator for Latimore Materials in Stringtown for 17 years. He also did carpentry work, was a police office for Atoka P.D. and also a deputy for Atoka Sheriff's Office. He married Margaret Rebecca (Maxey) on Thursday, May 15th, 1980 at Atoka, OK. They celebrated 35 years of marriage before her passing on November 15, 2015. Michael was of the Pentecostal faith. He attended The Miracle Revival Center in Atoka, OK and the last couple of years he attended The Gospel Lighthouse in Kiowa, OK. Michael enjoyed reading, fishing, working, watching football, building working on cars, preaching the Bible and teaching his kids and grandkids about the Lord.


Michael is survived by his children, Robbie Mishell Gass and husband Mark of Atoka, OK, Renitta Kay Morgan and husband Brian of Atoka, OK, Shane Campbell and wife Alysha of Atoka, OK; grandchildren, Sarah Wilson and husband Bryar of Atoka, OK, Jessica Morgan of Atoka, OK, Kelsie McAfee and husband T.J. of Lehigh, OK, Brittney Morgan of Atoka, OK, Brandy Morgan of Caney, OK, Oakley Gass and wife Makala of Atoka, OK, Haden Gass and wife Hope of Atoka, OK, Haley Dixon and husband Kolton of Caddo, OK, Hunter Gass of Norman, OK, Cort Campbell of Atoka, OK, Toby and Autumn Ladner of Atoka, OK; great grandchildren, Wrekin and Bannon, Chaytin, Dodie and Darcie Wilson, Rhett and Everlee Willis, Whitley and Lincoln McAfee, Braxton Rinehart, Eliana Griffith, Blakeleigh, Brynleigh and Bryleigh Gass, Graycen and Beau Dixon, James Cooper, Oakley Gass, Kane Campbell; step mother, Jewel Darst of Duncan, OK formerly of Atoka, OK; brothers, Walter R.B. Darst and wife Gail of Burney, CA, Sam Darst and wife Linda of Duncan, OK, Doc Darst and wife Arlinda of Antlers, OK; sisters, Glenda "Sissy" Carnefix of Pea Ridge, AR, Vonda Miller of Duncan, OK, Trelia Heise and husband Mike of Sherman, TX; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.


Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Becky Darst; mother, Nellie (Kennedy) Wilhite; father, Clifford Darst; brother, Doyle "Buck" Ray Woods; and numerous others special loved ones.
