Minerva Lois (Pope) Benson, age 83, a longtime Atoka, OK resident, was raised in Maud, OK area and moved to Atoka in February 1968 from Savoy, TX, was born on Saturday, November 7, 1936, to Wiley Oscar and Eular Etta (Mitchell) Pope, at Carr City, OK. Lois passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at Denison, TX. She graduated Maud High School in 1955. Lois worked for the newspaper at Maud, OK and then was a typesetter for Atoka County Times. She started in early 70's and also worked in the family printing business, A & B Printing. She married Robert Benson on Thursday, November 26th, 1953 at Maud, OK. They celebrated 66 years of marriage before her passing. Lois was an active member at Old Paths Baptist Church, and a long time member of First Baptist Church of Atoka. She enjoyed spending time with family and running the family business.
Lois is survived by her husband, Robert Benson of the home in Atoka, OK; children, Toni Benson and wife Rita of Stringtown, OK, Kurt Benson of Atoka, OK, Dennis Benson and wife Pam of Derby, KS, Ruth Benson of Shawnee, OK, Terry Benson and wife Opal of Atoka, OK, Kevin Benson and wife Elaine of Madill, OK; grandchildren, April Carroll and husband Ryan of Atoka, OK, Eric Benson and wife Rebecca of Tushka, OK, Mark Benson and wife Shelby of Phillips, OK, Katie Benson and fiancé Stacy Gavin of Hartshorne, OK, James Benson and wife Jessica of Atoka, OK, Kandy Simpson and husband Shannon of Atoka, OK, Vanessa Hinds and husband Kendal of Derby, KS, Taryn Jones and husband Taylor of Temecula, CA, Kimberly Logue-Goodson and husband Jason of Atoka, OK, Matthew Logue and wife Julie of Niceville, FL, Tiffany Logue of Stillwater, OK, Mary Blackburn and husband Abe of Stillwater, OK, Amy Logue of Shawnee, OK, Benjamin Benson of Durant, OK, Kristin Turnpaugh and husband Zach of Strawn, TX, Kacy Benson of Madill, OK, Rachel McMurtrey of Stillwater, OK; sister, Donna Poe of Broken Bow, OK; 24 great grandchildren; along with other relatives and many dear friends.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Wiley and Eular Pope; brothers, Hollis, Carl, Wilmer, and Arley Pope; sisters, Bernice Roop, Mildred Norman, Wanda Harris; grandson, Jared Robert Benson; great granddaughter, Mercedes Elizabeth Barton.
