Minnie Ruth (Thompson) Newberry, age 88, a resident of Coalgate, Oklahoma. She was born on July 16, 1933 to Mack and Minnie (Shipman) Thompson near Wardville, Oklahoma. Ruth passed away on November 8, 2021 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She held several jobs from 1995 to 2000 at the Mary Hurley Hospital and Coalgate Courthouse until she became secretary/receptionist at Cottonwood School in 2000. She was employed there for 21 years. Ruth attended Limestone Gap and graduated in 1951. She was an outstanding basketball player and was awarded a scholarship to attend college in Chickasha, Oklahoma. She married a former teacher, Lee R. Newberry in May, 1951. Lee later became a Baptist preacher. They had two children: Brenda and Keniard. Their children had cystic fibrosis. Ruth became a fulltime caregiver, minister's wife and housewife. Brenda died in 1958, Keniard in 1987 and Lee in 1995. Ruth was of the Baptist Faith. She had many talents such as interior design, fashion and was a faithful friend to many.
