Nathan Chris "8" Nelson, age 86, a longtime Atoka, OK resident. He was born on Thursday, November 17, 1938, to Theodore Roosevelt Sr. and Carrie Dona (Tekubbie) Nelson, at Talihina, OK. Nathan passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, OK. He attended Atoka High School. Nathan was a talented stone mason who proudly carried on the family trade both locally and abroad. His knowledge, expertise and creativity set him apart from others in the field. He especially enjoyed mentoring family members in the trade and this was a great source of pride for him. Nathan proudly served his country as a military policeman in The Oklahoma National Guard. He was a member of Pine Grove Methodist Church in Lane, OK. He enjoyed cruising on the dirt roads and back streets of Atoka in his old white Chevy truck.
Nathan is survived by his children, Keith Nelson and wife Raynell of Konawa, OK, Kris Duncan and husband Herbert of Choctaw, OK, Melissa Freeman and husband Guy of Oklahoma City, OK, Blaine Nelson and wife Sarah of Atoka, OK; grandchildren, Jeremy McKee, Krystal Duncan, Ryan Duncan, Madeleine Freeman, Aeneas Freeman, Mason B. Nelson, Daryl Baquera and wife Akeyra, Kathryn Gragg, Adelaide Smith, Jaxton Garside; great grandchildren, Alayna Baquera, Leiliana Baquera; siblings, James "Zeb" Nelson Sr., Uhlah Cleo "Shady" Nelson, T.R. "Huck" Nelson Jr.; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
Nathan was preceded in death by his parents, TR and Carrie Nelson; brothers, Marvin "Chief" Harvick, Arnold "Duke" Nelson, Calvin "Si" Nelson Sr.; sisters, Eldonna "Donna" (Nelson) Carney, Neomi "Rita" (Nelson) Moore; grandchildren, Britain Patrick Parker Freeman, Tristan Dean Deere.
