Neatha Gastiven Hickman Smith, age 92, a McAlester, OK resident for the past 40 years, formerly a resident of Wapanucka, OK, was born on Sunday, September 15, 1929, to Gaston and Dovie (Cathey) Hickman.
Neatha passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021 at Ft. Smith, AR. She graduated from Chiloco Indian School.
Neatha was an inspector and worked in human resources at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant. She married Wilburn Smith on May 19, 1945 in Atoka, OK. He preceded her in death. Neatha was a member of First Baptist Church of McAlester. She was a proud member of Choctaw Nation and was active in all Choctaw activities. Was a wonderful Meme to her children and grandchildren, loved jigsaw puzzles and gambling at Choctaw Casinos. She was the "glue" and the matriarch of the family.
Neatha is survived by her granddaughter, Tawatha Linhardt of Tulsa, OK; grandson, Gabriel Bourlier of McAlester, OK; great grandchidlren, Ivy Linhardt, Naviah and Isabella; brothers, Ronald Hickman, Herman Hickman and wife Anna, Roderick Hickman, Henry Hickman; sisters, Magdaline Hickman, June White Buffalo and husband Junior, April Castillo and husband Eugene; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and loved friends.
Neatha was preceded in death by her parents, Gaston Hickman and Dovie Hickman; stepmom, Anna Bell (Hickman) Alberson; husband, Wilburn Smith; son, Rodrick Smith; daughter, Tawana Smith; siblings, Donald Hickman, Phillip Hickman, Jo Ann Amos, Christine Hickman Bates, Linda Hickman Gibson.
