Norman Wayne “Pete” Thomas
Norman Wayne “Pete” Thomas, 90, of Coalgate, Oklahoma, passed away on July 25, 2026, in Coalgate, Oklahoma. He was born on February 21, 1936, in Poolville, Texas, to Hugh Willard Thomas and Willie Frank (Hargrove) Thomas.
Pete started his adult life as a cattle rancher and also worked in the oil field. Later becoming a full time rancher. He also enjoyed racing horses and was known for his strong work ethic. He attended Coalgate High School through the twelfth grade and was a member of First Baptist Church of Coalgate. Pete enjoyed breeding, training and racing horses, playing dominoes, playing bingo, and watching football. He loved joking around, telling stories and jokes, and making people laugh.
He is survived by his daughter Teresa Vanselow and husband Scott of Haskell, Oklahoma. His daughter, Stormie Brumble of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; his son, Brad Thomas and wife Belinda of Coalgate, Oklahoma; He is also survived by his grandchildren, Chris Childress and wife Linda of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Jimmy Childress of Haskell, Oklahoma; Lacy Sanders and husband Charles of Atoka, Oklahoma; Katy Hedgecock of Atoka, Oklahoma; Rainie Orcutt and husband Nick of Sperry, Oklahoma; Keener Brumble and wife Dani of Coweta, Oklahoma; Natasha Hensley and husband Nick of Wewoka, Oklahoma; Sebien Treat and husband Kyle of Byng, Oklahoma; Connor Livingston and wife Rachel of Butternut, Wisconsin; Easton Thomas of Coalgate, Oklahoma; and Emma Knight and husband Jake of Coalgate, Oklahoma.He is also survived by multiple great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Willard Thomas and Willie Frank Thomas; his daughter, Norma Gale Thomas; his brothers, Ben Thomas, Elmo Thomas, A.W. Thomas, Rudolph Thomas, Doyle Thomas, Max “Bubba” Thomas, Royce Thomas, and Bobby Thomas; and his sisters, Elwanda “Sis” Thomas, Eileen Sandmann, and Billye Sue Flowers.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Brown’s Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Bro. Craig Cochran officiating. Interment will follow at Wards Chapel Cemetery in Atoka, Oklahoma.
Pallbearers will be Chris Childress, Jimmy Childress, Keener Brumble, Easton Thomas, Johnny Ray Billings, Braxton O’Brien.
