Oleta Marie (Workman) Gossett, age 73, a longtime Caney resident, was born on Saturday, May 29, 1948, to James and Eva Ethel (Tigert) Workman, at Portersville, CA. Marie passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Durant, OK. She graduated from Tushka High School and went on to receive her bachelors and masters degrees from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Marie was a teacher at Caney Public School for twenty seven years. She married Thomas Layton Gossett on Saturday, December 6th, 1969 at Caddo, Oklahoma. They recently celebrated fifty two wonderful years together. Marie was a member of Voca Baptist Church. She was the Who's who teacher of the year. Marie enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking, gardening, camping, flowers and a wide variety of animals. She got her greatest joy from her grandchildren. Marie is survived by her husband, Thomas Layton Gossett of Caney, OK; son, Clay Gossett and wife Alyssa of Caney, OK; grandchildren, Kirsten Gossett and boyfriend Robert Henderson of Caney, OK, Phillip Gossett of Caney, OK, Hagyn Gossett of Caney, OK, Tucker Gossett of Caney, OK, Ethen Gossett of Caney, OK, Newt Gossett of Caney, OK; great grandchildren, Landri Henderson of Atoka, OK, Baby Henderson on the way; siblings, Jimmy Workman and wife Rena of Caney, OK, Reta Mattison of Caney, OK, Al Workman and wife Linda of Caney, OK, Ann Richardson and husband Roger of Caney, OK, Mike Workman and wife Carla of Caney, OK, Mary Hooper and husband Mike of Atoka, OK, Pat Duncan and husband Levi of Mead, OK, Zeni Workman of Durant, OK; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and many dear friends. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, James and Eva Ethel (Tigert) Workman; daughter, Sarah Gossett; brother-in-law, Harvey Mattison
