Orvizine Cleveland, age 98, a longtime Wapanucka, OK resident. She was born on Monday, October 3, 1927, to Otis and Dora Mae Nichols, at Mena, AR. Orvizine passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at Oklahoma City, OK. She attended Pleasant Hill School, until leaving to help her family work their farm. Much of her knowledge was earned during life experiences in the rural country, along with the events of her era. Later, she also received her GED. In her early years, Orvizine labored in fields of strawberries, blueberries, cotton and peanuts. Later, she worked in a chicken slaughter house, cooked at Wapanucka School for years, and was a seamstress at Wrangler's factory in Madill. Then, she worked at Walmart in Atoka, handling stock and inventory. She married Raymond Cleveland on Tuesday, October 31st, 1944 at Atoka, OK. Raymond had just enlisted in the Army, and was immediately deployed to Europe for infantry service in World War II. After he returned, they built a life together. They celebrated over 70 years of marriage before his passing on June 27, 2015. Orvizine was a longtime member of Wapanucka Church of God. Orvizine took pride in working with her hands. This included growing large vegetable gardens, landscaping around her home, and sewing. She loved flowers, especially yellow roses. She enjoyed singing and listening to old time gospel music, reading the Bible, and coloring. Until her last days, Orvizine remained active, feeding and watching her birds every morning, watching cows, walking outside and on her treadmill, even hoeing weeds (when she could get away with it).As the last surviving family member in her generation, she enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Orvizine deeply loved Jesus. She was a selfless, Godly woman, and a prayer warrior. She leaves a legacy of wisdom from old-time experiences, and the word of God.
