Owen Lee Prater, age 80, an Ada, OK resident, formerly a longtime Lane area resident, was born on Monday, April 1, 1940, to Hollie Owen and Ruby Alene (Birchfield) Prater, at Bentley, OK. Owen passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Oklahoma City, OK. He attended Farris Grade School and Jackson Jr. High. Owen was a bus driver until his retirement in 2002. He married Shirley (Garrard) on Friday, July 29th, 1966 at Sherman, TX. They celebrated 53 years of marriage. Owen was a member of Restoration Church, a former member of New Beginnings Church and Mt. View Pentecostal Church of God for 31 years before moving to Ada. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening and going to his grandchildren's ballgames. Owen enjoyed sitting on his front porch watching his Martin's (birds) and looking forward to his boys driving by and honking as well as other cars that drove by.
Owen is survived by his wife, Shirley Prater of the home in Ada, OK; sons, Robert Owen Prater and wife Kimberly of Ada, OK, Roger Owen Prater and wife Nancy of Ada, OK, Donald Jackson and wife Tara of Drumright, OK; granddaughter, Kiersten Rachell Prater of Ada, OK; grandsons, Levi Owen Prater of Ada, OK, Bryson Jackson and Rowdy Jackson of Drumright, OK; sisters, Lillie Boone of Atoka, OK, Mary Prater of Farris, OK, Dorothy Silvers of Lane, OK; uncle, Bunny Birchfield of Farris, OK; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends.
Owen was preceded in death by his parents, Hollie and Ruby Prater; grandparents, John and Lillie Prater, Jay and Ophelia Birchfield; nephews, Roger Moore, Darrell Sides; brothers in law, Clint Boone, Dale Silvers; special friends, Earnest R. Williams, Felix Buckhannan; best friend, Fred Spears.
